Insulation for vessels, tanks and associated pipework

A vessel’s insulation needs to suit its operating temperature, location and use. We can discuss the vessel body, heads, connecting pipework and fittings as one installation, including areas that need regular inspection or maintenance access.

The work may involve hot-water storage, process vessels or other industrial tanks. The insulation specification and finish should be agreed for the particular installation; cold services also need careful attention to vapour control and condensation.

A finish suited to the installation

Aluminium or stainless steel cladding provides a protective finish over the insulation. Stainless steel is particularly relevant where the project calls for a durable, cleanable finish in pharmaceutical, food, dairy or brewing environments. External cladding details need to consider weather exposure, joints and penetrations.

Replacing damaged or missing insulation

Existing vessel insulation can be reviewed alongside damaged cladding, exposed fittings and associated pipework. Tell us which areas require access and whether the work needs to fit around a shutdown or an operating plant.

What to send us

Email photographs, approximate vessel dimensions, operating temperatures where known, the site location and any insulation specification or drawings. This helps us understand the scope and discuss the next step.

Typical vessel and tank scope

  • Hot well tanks, calorifiers and buffer vessels
  • Process tanks and storage vessels
  • Heat exchangers and pressure vessels
  • Dished ends, manways and nozzle connections
  • Removable sections for inspection access

Materials and finishes

Vessels are typically insulated with mineral wool slab or lamella, then clad in fabricated aluminium or stainless steel segments to suit the shape. Removable panels at manways, nozzles and inspection points mean the vessel can be inspected without damaging the cladding.
